Kym Murphy on...

Women leaders
“There is a tendency among males to emphasis strength and action approaches to leadership when in fact listening and empathy form a much stronger basis for long term leadership success – women tend to have these qualities in abundance.”

Passing the Baton Only A Start
“We have designed Passing the Baton as a one day introduction to leadership for younger managers and aspiring leaders. Our aim is not to focus on some of the more corporate requirements of leadership but rather on some of the fundamental people skills managers need to become leaders."

Leadership in the Community
“Leading in a community context is a good deal tougher than in a work environment. At work the reason you are there has been effectively decided by the shareholders of the business. In the community, you are the one that has to make the ‘I believe’ commitment to a programme or idea. Once you have committed yourself, you use the same skill sets you would engage when at work.”

Leading in a Service Environment
“Leadership skills are directly transferable across business units and proven leaders in a service environment can successfully lead in almost any situation. It goes without saying that the best leaders also have an intimate knowledge of their business operation."
